This page is dedicated to all of our students. Without them we wouldn’t be doing what we love doing. Some have started at MYC and some are long term practitioners. They are people from all walks of life: artists, doctors, academics, business owners, priests, life explorers, from 20 years to over 70 years young. They have different personal histories, life philosophies and interests. What is common for all of them is that the practice of Astanga yoga enriches their lives in many ways. They also prove the old saying ”anybody can practice Astanga, except lazy people” once again true.
“It is very important for me to be part of a yoga studio where I can turn to my teacher in tust if I find any difficulties or disbeliefs in my practice. MYC offers a warm nurturing space with a wonderful diversity among the group of practitioners. I often hits me, when I on my mat practicing in the mysore room how we as a group are so different as individuals in age, cultural background, body types, even our minds works in different ways – but as a group we are united as a community in our devotion to the yoga practice, sharing the same energy as we go through our practice in our own pace – and I find that very beautiful.”
“An important issue for me has been finding a shala and teachers, were I feel safe and supported in my practice. Trusting is imperative, when recovering from my injuries. I have needed both support in surrendering into my pains and the compassionate guidance in how not to drown in them. To me, the shala is a warm and soothing atmosphere, where the practice is considered a therapeutic method to uncover my patterns by which I live my life.”
“Each practice makes me feel better and calmer, and that trickles out into the rest of my life. Perhaps my most important gradual finding has been to learn patience. There’s no hurry and rushing doesn’t lead anywhere. Continuous and never-ending learning makes showing up on the mat again and again highly rewarding.”
“What I like most about yoga is that it’s a practice and not a competition. There is nothing to get right or to get done on time or to do better than someone else. One just have to allow it to happen and enjoy it. Same as with life. If I miss a practice I feel off balance and it is safe to say that yoga is what keeps me going each day.”
“When I started, it was hard to foresee the benefits of the practice, but now I sense a light and happiness in my life. I feel closer to myself and I have learned how to listen to myself carefully. I feel lighter, more energized and there’s just simply more clarity in my mind. The practice has broadened my perspective of life.”
“Regular practice of Astanga yoga challenges and rewards me in a balanced way. Mysore style is a fantastic method to practice, learn and grow with yoga. You connect with your teacher in a special way through the individual teaching and still get that special power from practicing together with other people.”
“For me, practicing yoga is a daily nourishment on several levels; spiritually, emotionally, mentally and the levels I do not yet know the names of. I learn to cultivate focus and patience in a way, that influences all other aspects of my life. In all, dedicating the first couple of hours of the day practicing, simply makes life more simple.”
“Maintaining a regular practice has taught me to liberate myself. Liberate myself from things that were no longer serving me. Whether it was relationships, work, habits or stories. Every yoga journey is different. Because – every person is different. I can not tell you how your yoga path would be like. The only thing I can say is that you need to be patient and stay open. You don’t go on the mat to have a good time. You go on the mat to have a better relationship with yourself. To be true to yourself. To love yourself. To be more forgiving and accepting towards yourself. To be kind and patient with yourself. It is hard work.”
“Mysore style appeals to me because while in a group setting, I practice at my own pace, yet with the guidance of the teacher.
At Mysore Yoga Cph I found a friendly space to continue to practice. Helena is kind, dedicated to her students and is able convey her experience and understanding of the practice towards the particular need of the student.”
“The practice has calmed me down and there are more choices and possibilities in life, the perspective is wider. My work is demanding, but yoga gives me tools to focus and helps me to find a balanced way of living with a full schedule. This is something you cannot study in school or read from books. It only comes by practicing regularly.”
“My main motivator is the direct experience of the words by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois: “When the mind is quiet the asana is correct”. Also the inspirational teaching and support I receive is an essential element on my path. In the Mysore room there’s space for ups and downs, but at the end of each practice, all is always well.”
“At first I wasn’t sure if I could practice because of the medical challenges with my arm, but Mysore style allows me to build up my individual practice. It’s fantastic to be in the Mysore room where everybody is practicing on their own level, but still together, while getting personal guidance. It’s a perfect combination.”
“Having first tried Mysore practice I fell in love at an instant. Each practice challenges me and reminds me of being present with myself and my experience, no matter what’s the nature of this experience. The regular practice of Astanga supports my spiritual journey of discovering what I am by gradually revealing what I am not.” Read more
“The reason I first stepped onto the mat was that I wanted new things to happen and develop personally in a new direction. I can clearly feel the mental and physical progress the regular practice brings. Every time I practice I find the feeling of peace and it helps me to stay calm in difficult situations also off the mat. ” Read more
